Top Ways to Stay Healthy this Season
Wash Your Hands!
I know this sounds like common sense, but seriously folks. Wash your hands with soap and water. It should take you the length of singing the “Happy Birthday Song”. Miessence has a great all natural hand soap that lasts a really long time, and smells great. Hand Sanitizers are good in a pinch, but nothing replaces a good hand scrubbing. Remember to get under your nails.
Eating organic has a lot of advantages. In this case your body doesn’t have to process all of the chemicals and waxes that are frequently found on non-organic produce. Choose organic meat that has not been given hormones or genetically modified grains. Choose non GMO items in general. Most corn, wheat, and soy in the United States is genetically modified. Which means that several harmful pesticides and heavy metals still lurk within. Go For A Walk
It is believed that physical activity may help flush bacteria out of the lungs and airways. Exercise slows down the release of stress hormones. Some stress increases the chance of illness. By decreasing stress you may protect against illness. Moderate exercise has been shown to be the most effective. Take a 20 minute walk, go for a bike ride, go to the gym every other day.
Both acupuncture and Reiki have been shown to decrease cortisol, the hormone related to stress. By decreasing stress you help to boost the immune system. Both can leave you with a sense of wellbeing, and both are great for when you are starting to get that “run down” feeling. Have you always wanted to try acupuncture & reiki, but to afraid to try it by yourself? Come join us for our monthly “Acupuncture Happy Hour”.
As natural compounds found in the earth, essential oils have been used for centuries for things like food preparation, aromatherapy, religious ceremonies, beauty treatments, healthcare practices, and more. Essential oils are not a modern-day fad, but have been used since ancient times in a variety of ways. At CCHW we use dōTERRA essential oils. We like that they are pure, steam distilled, and are sourced from a global network of growers.
Aromatherapy is one of the most popular uses of essential oils to reduce stress and promote relaxation and clear thinking.
Lavender oil is the most common stress reducer. It helps you sleep, and calms you when you are feeling tense. Spray a little on your or your child’s pillow case at night to help induce sleep. During the day rub a drop or two in the palms of your hands and inhale to ease your mood or shake off that meeting that ran entirely too long.
Have a tension headache? Rub a little peppermint oil on your temples to help clear your head with its cooling sensations and ability to open your sinuses and airways.
Gray days of winter have you down? Use a few drops of lemon oil to awaken your senses and brighten your day. Add a drop or two to your water to liven it up and act as a natural detox. You can even use it diluted to clean surfaces.
One of our favorite immune supporting blends is dōTERRA On Guard.
