Experience the therapeutic benefits of Biomat Far-Infrared treatments

Biomat Far-Infrared Therapy is a type of alternative therapy that involves lying on a mat or pad that emits far-infrared rays. Far-Infrared (FIR) energy can penetrate the body more deeply than conventional heat sources like heat lamps or conventional heating pads, with less risk of burning the skin.

At Calandra Center for Health and Wellness, we use the Richway & Fuji Bio Inc. Biomat 7000mx, an FDA-approved medical device

The Biomat’s delivery of soothing infrared heat, plus calming negative ions, offers a convenient, comfortable, and relaxing experience for drug-free pain management and overall wellness. Potential benefits include increased circulation to improve healing time of injuries, and pain management for conditions like arthritis, injuries, muscle stiffness, and fibromyalgia.

What is Far-Infrared Therapy?

While body heat is internal and evenly distributed, the Biomat provides an external far-infrared radiant heat source that penetrates deep into the tissues, creating a heat gradient from the surface to the core. Based on the idea that far-infrared rays can raise the core body temperature and produce effects similar to conventional saunas or heat therapy, biomat therapy exposes the body to heat for therapeutic purposes. However, the far-infrared heat from Biomat is designed to provide a different heating profile compared to the ambient heat of saunas.

As a medical device, the FDA has approved the Biomat for the following uses:

  • Temporary relief of minor muscle and joint pain and stiffness
  • Temporary relief of joint pain associated with arthritis
  • Temporary relief of muscle spasms, minor sprains and strains, and minor muscular back pain
  • Relaxation of muscles
  • Temporary increase of local circulation where applied

After using a conventional heating pad for 10 minutes, only the outer surface of the skin is affected.
The biomat heat penetrates deep into the body tissues, up to 1.5 inches (4 cm) beneath the skin.
After 5 minutes of using far infrared rays, which can penetrate much more deeply than other types of heat.

If you’re on medications, have implanted medical devices, or have a medical condition, we recommend that you consult your physician or primary care provider before using the Biomat 7000mx.

Benefits of Biomat Far-Infrared Treatment

Biomat Far-Infrared Therapy offers a safe, non-invasive way to benefit from the potential therapeutic effects of deep penetrating infrared heat. Regular sessions can induce relaxation, improve sleep quality, and support detoxification through increased sweating and removal of metabolic wastes. One of the unique features of the biomat is that it contains layers of amethyst and tourmaline. When combined, amethyst and tourmaline can create a powerful shield of protection and grounding, helping to deflect negative energy and promote a sense of calm and well-being. In addition, the negative ions emitted by the Biomat can help to neutralize positive ions and promote a sense of calm and well-being.

Sports Injuries

Far-infrared heat therapy can improve the pliability of tight tendons and connective tissues surrounding an injury, as well as increasing local blood circulation. The deep, penetrating heat can help to reduce pain, inflammation, and muscle stiffness commonly associated with sprains, strains, and overuse injuries.

Pain, Strains, Sprains

The radiant heat of the Biomat has a therapeutic effect on tight, knotted muscles and promotes muscle relaxation. This can ease pressure on strained muscles and relieve tension.

Pain Management

The gentle, soothing heat from the Biomat can help increase blood circulation to arthritic joints and muscles which can reduce inflammation, stiffness, and pain associated with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. The Biomat penetrates deep into muscles, joints, and connective tissues with its infrared rays which may help alleviate fibromyalgia pain by improving circulation and releasing muscle tension.

Biomat Far-Infrared FAQs

Are biomats safe?

Biomats and far-infrared therapy are generally considered safe for most people when used as directed, but there are some potential risks and precautions to be aware of. If you’re on medications, have implanted medical devices, or have a medical condition, we recommend that you consult your physician or primary care provider before using the Biomat 7000mx.

Some specific contraindications and safety considerations for Far-Infrared (FIR) therapy in the context of FIR saunas are discussed in this Healthline article about infrared saunas, which may apply to the use of the Biomat 7000mx as well.

Safety Precautions:

  • Hydrate well before and after sessions to replace fluids lost from sweating.
  • Start with shorter sessions and lower temperatures to acclimatize.
  • Avoid use with certain medications that impair sweating.
  • Those with serious medical conditions should consult their doctor first.
  • Pregnancy requires caution, as overheating can potentially harm the fetus.
  • Stop use if you experience dizziness, nausea, or other concerning symptoms.

The biomat used at CCHW has been certified by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL). NRTL certification is a third-party certification program provided by laboratories that have been recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in the United States.

How does Biomat Far-Infrared therapy work?

Based on the idea that far-infrared rays can raise the core body temperature and produce effects similar to conventional saunas or heat therapy, biomat therapy exposes the body to heat for therapeutic purposes. However, the far-infrared radiation from Biomats is designed to provide a different heating profile compared to the ambient heat of saunas.

One of the unique features of the biomat is that it contains layers of amethyst and tourmaline,

It also emits negative ions that help to calm the mind.

Each individual’s experience will be different. Some people may feel immediate relief from pain and discomfort while others may take a few weeks. The time it takes to achieve relief likely depends on factors such as the specific condition being treated, the severity of symptoms, and an individual’s unique physiology. It’s important to have realistic expectations and give the therapy an adequate trial period, as the cumulative effects of the deep penetrating heat may take time to manifest for certain people.

Is there research on Biomat Far-Infrared therapy treatment?

Research on the medical applications for far-infrared radiation (FIR) is still in its infancy, which means that longer-term effects, for example on circulation and pain conditions, have not been robustly documented in peer-reviewed studies. However, many Biomat users feel significant benefit beyond what they have experienced using conventional heat therapies.
