Neuro-Emotional Technique (NET)

NET addresses the body as a whole, taking into account the emotional, biochemical, and physiological elements that are involved in creating our conditioned responses to situations.

Neuro-Emotional Technique (NET): A Mind-Body Approach to Resolving Stress Reactions

How long have you had a nagging pain and tightness in your neck and shoulders? You’ve tried massage, acupuncture, chiropractic – but it just keeps coming back because of stress.

Neuro-emotional Technique (NET) can find and remove the unresolved stress reactions that trigger a range of chronic physical and behavioral conditions such as body pains (like that pain in your neck), headaches, anxiety, and depression.

What is Neuro-emotional Technique (NET)?

NET is a scientifically-studied mind-body technique that uses applied kinesiology, also referred to as muscle testing, along with other NET protocols, to locate and remove neurological imbalances that are held within the body and its energy systems.

These imbalances occur after a stressful experience, when our brain and body develop a defensive, unresolved stress-response pattern that becomes ingrained and persists even when the original threat is no longer present. In NET, unresolved stress reactions are referred to as Neuro-emotional Complexes (NEC).

Research on NET supports its effectiveness at resolving stress reactions.

NET First Aid Stress Tool (FAST)

The NET First Aid Stress Tool (FAST) can be used to help relieve symptoms associated with many different kinds of stress and often brings immediate relief.

FAST is not intended as a replacement for consultation, diagnosis or treatment, and it is always recommended you consult with your healthcare professional.

Watch: How NET works

In the following video, Dr. Dan Monti shows how NET works:

“Free Your Brain from Blocks to Success,” created by Dr. Dan Monti, explains how NET can change the brain.

NET Research

In a 2018 study by Dr. Monti and colleagues found measurable changes in cerebellar functional connectivity and autonomic regulation after patients were treated with NET for traumatic stress symptoms.

A 2022 study by Dr. Bablis and colleagues showed the relationship between low back pain and an unresolved stress reaction that could be resolved using NET.

What NET is NOT…

Your NET practitioner is not a mental health practitioner. We refer to and collaborate with mental healthcare providers to develop a coordinated treatment and care program.

To more fully understand what NET is, it is helpful to also recognize what NET is not.

  • NET does not deal with the spiritual realm, or exorcise demons or entities.
  • It is NOT psychic activity and does not deal in any way with parapsychology.
  • Does NOT predict the future, or tell people a plan of action for the future.
  • NET does not hold to any theory that a practitioner, via the muscle test or otherwise, can “talk to the body” or get “yes” or “no” or any other verbal “answer.”
  • NET does NOT use psychological correction, only a physiological correction with the consent of the patient. We are looking to see how the body responds to questions.
  • Neuro Emotional Complexes (NEC) – are YOUR emotional reality. These events may or may not have historically happened. NET never makes claims to past events. Your emotional reality is how YOU remember it.

Neuro-emotional Technique FAQs

What can I expect at an NET session?

NET can be received as a stand-alone 30-minute session or in combination with any of our other modalities.

You will be asked what you would like to focus on during the session. Occasionally, the stressor that is found can bring up an emotional response. Remember, you are in control of this session.

We will utilize a special type of muscle test. This test is not meant to be a test of your overall strength. Instead we are simply looking for the point of resistance or where it “locks.” In fact, we use the least amount of pressure possible to elicit the response.

  • Mind Entry Protocol – We will come up with an “I’m ok” statement. Example: “I’m ok being ok!”. Think of this as the doorway that allows us to pass into the deeper levels that are affecting you.
  • Body Entry Protocol – You will be asked to touch the area of discomfort. We will then determine through muscle testing whether that area of discomfort has an unresolved stressor attached to it. Example: For neck pain you will be asked to touch the exact area of pain.
  • Sometimes homeopathic remedies will be used or recommended to you.

On occasion your NET practitioner may recommend following up with a mental health practitioner and may be able to provide a referral if you are not already working with one.

How are Neuro-emotional Complexes formed?

When you experience a stressful event, your body’s defenses take over and create a stress response (also known as your fight-flight-or-freeze response), which may cause you to feel a variety of physical symptoms, behave differently, and experience intense emotions.

During the stress response, your body produces chemicals to help the body respond to the situation. Physiological changes can include raised blood pressure, increased heart rate, increased sweating, and reduced stomach activity (loss of appetite). This is normal. Directly after the event, some people may also experience shock and memory loss.

A defensive response pattern is created by the traumatic experience, and, without intervention, that response pattern can become ingrained – held within the body and its energy systems – as a Neuro-emotional Complex (NEC).

The presence of the NEC means that a new perceived threat that feels similar to the original threat can cause the body to revert back to the original response pattern. This is how unresolved NECs can manifest in various physical and emotional symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, and chronic pain.

What are Homeopathic Remedies?

Homeopathy uses natural ingredients to help activate the body’s natural ability to heal. All homeopathic ingredients are diluted and succussed (shaken) a specific number of times to create a specific potency.

Dr. Walker, the developer of NET, discovered that sometimes the body needs a little extra support in processing stressors (NEC – Neuro Emotional Complexes).

During a session it may be found that a homeopathic spray is indicated to support your system. All homeopathic remedies utilized are a part of the NET modality and are sold through NETmindbody.com
